Building pathways to better care

We support a select number of healthcare initiatives—from single donations of needed equipment to ongoing giving to specific research—in honour of those whose stories have forever transformed our own lives.

Check out some of our projects below.

Cambridge Memorial Hospital

Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) didn’t have an ICU kidney dialysis machine. Typically, patients had to be transferred for this critical treatment.

This gap in care became especially apparent in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, when some patients would present with immediate and urgent need for dialysis.

A few of our team members come from the Cambridge area and have long had ties to CMH. To help the hospital take its care for the community to an even higher level, our Foundation helped CMH acquire an ICU dialysis machine in 2020. Patients in the CMH catchment area now have access to top-notch care, right in the heart of their own community.

In support of this partnership, the hospital named a lecture hall in its new wing after the Malaviya family. A bright, welcoming workspace, this lecture hall will support future breakthroughs through collaborative learning and innovative thinking.

We all have health stories. Whether our own or those of the people closest to us, these stories are among the most powerful we ever encounter.

Huntington Society of Canada

Approximately one in 5,500 Canadians is at risk of inheriting Huntington’s disease (HD). This hereditary brain disorder causes a progressive breakdown in nerve cells in the brain.

While there is currently no cure for this fatal disease, researchers in Canada and around the world are hard at work on promising treatments.

In addition, some research from HD is relevant for other neurological disorders. This means that HD research has the potential to create an even bigger impact for more people.

To honour the Huntington Society of Canada’s 50th anniversary in 2023, our Foundation donated $50,000 to support the people studying the disease, and the people and families affected by HD.
